There are questions at wide receiver for Clemson football

As we approach the scheduled kickoff for the 2020 Clemson football season, there are still some major questions off-the-field, but there are also some intriguing storylines to follow on-the-field with the Tigers, as well.

One of the major questions coming out of fall camp for Clemson football has to do with the wide receiver position.

The Tigers lose their top two receivers from last season- Tee Higgins (NFL) and Justyn Ross (season-ending injury)- and the two players who were expected to be major replacements- Joseph Ngata and Frank Ladson Jr.– have missed the majority of preseason practices due to protocol.

So, with all the uncertainty, who will Clemson football turn to? Amari Rodgers is the answer.

Amari Rodgers is going to be a big-time receiver during the 2020 season

Rodgers has taken on a much bigger role in the leadership of the Tiger offense and is now the leading returner at wide receiver heading into this season.

Rodgers was never really 100 percent healthy last season and that showed as we progressed through the fall with him getting minimal targets, but that shouldn’t be expected this time around.

So many times last year Clemson settled for throwing up the back-shoulder fade because Higgins was just that much better than any other defensive back the Tigers faced.

This year, though, we’re going to see Trevor Lawrence take advantage of the middle of the field more and the result will see Rodgers’ numbers soar.

Expect the Tigers to use his athleticism and precise route-running ability to their advantage and for him to eat up the middle of the defense and break off some big runs through screens and jet sweep passes, as well.
