Clemson Football: When will ACC release fan attendance guidelines for 2020?
When could Clemson football hear the fan attendance guidelines from the ACC in 2020?
The 2020 Clemson football season is set to be the strangest in school history, without a doubt.
The Tigers are preparing to play this fall, but nothing is going to look the same when they take the field due to the ongoing pandemic that is hitting the entire globe.
That being said, one of the biggest questions Clemson football fans have about the upcoming season has to do with attendance.
The Clemson Insider reported earlier this week that Clemson has begun the process of filing to have fans at its games this fall, but will see its capacity limits set by the state of South Carolina. That process could take a little bit of time and it’s unclear what the number will be when it’s all said and done, or if that number can change as the season progresses for that matter.
The University of South Carolina anticipates having just less than 20,000 fans at its games this fall (24.6 percent capacity), so we might can expect to see somewhere around the same attendance measures for Clemson football.
That being said, we’re also still waiting to hear from the ACC when it comes to protocols for Clemson football fans in the stands
The SEC released its guidelines for fans attending football games this fall. Here’s a look at those guidelines, according to CBS Sports:
- The conference will require everyone in attendance to wear a face covering
- Barriers will be placed at the point-of-sale at concession stands and the like
- Queuing lines at points-of-sale shall permit physical distancing between guests.
- “Grab and go” food/beverage options should be considered at points-of-sale locations.
- All tickets shall be digitally scanned.
- Institutions shall have a documented plan that outlines the procedures/protocol for appropriate disinfection of the stadium.
- Institutions shall have a documented plan that outlines the procedures/protocol for working with guests who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms.
- Institutions shall launch a communication/public relations campaign for communicating all COVID-19 procedures/protocol to prospective guests.
- Individual schools will decide whether to hold team walks to the stadium. But if they take place, the league will require that everyone attending — including players and staff — wear masks. The issue of tailgating will also be an institutional decision
With the SEC’s guidelines being released, it shouldn’t be long before we hear something from the ACC pertaining to fan attendance.
The SEC is basically allowing its conference members to make decisions on fan attendance while placing some mandates- such as requiring face covers- in place. Clemson football fans should expect something of the same.
The one other thing that Tiger fans can take into account is the fact that Clemson doesn’t play a home game until the second week of the season- and it’s a non-conference game. The Tigers have more time on their hands to roll out their plan, see how things work around the country and make final decisions based upon those findings.
Still, Clemson football fans are waiting news and it shouldn’t be too much longer before we hear something at least slightly definitive pertaining to Death Valley this fall.
