There’s something special about these Clemson football defensive backs

Though some are a little concerned about the defensive back group for Clemson football this season, there’s seemingly something special about the unit.

What are we talking about?

Over the course of time with Dabo Swinney, you begin to catch on to certain things he says when it pertains to the Clemson football program. It’s not necessarily what he says, but the way he says it.

If you’ve watched any of Swinney’s press conferences over the course of this preseason, you should notice the way he lights up when he gets asked a question about the defensive backfield or when he gets an opportunity to speak on that secondary group.

You don’t have to take my word for it, just go look up the videos and watch.

Clemson football fans should believe in these defensive backs

Coming into the season, the defensive backfield may very well have been the biggest concern on that side of the ball, but it’s looking more likely that this unit is set to have a big year- assuming we get to play.

Both Swinney and the defensive coaches have been adamant about the talent and depth they possess about the cornerbacks and safeties, and it’s my opinion we’re going to see a heavy rotation this season.

At cornerback, Derion Kendrick and LeAnthony Williams are listed as co-starters at one side with Andrew Booth Jr. and Mario Goodrich listed as the co-starters on the other side. Sheridan Jones (a former 4-star) and Fred Davis (a 5-star freshman) round out the depth chart.

At safety, Nolan Turner (FS) and Lannden Zanders (SS) are listed as the starters with Ray Thornton, Jalyn Phillips and Joseph Charleston listed as the back-ups there.

You’re talking about a ton of talent and depth in that secondary and, over the course of this season, we’re going to see that group grow up and make a major impact for the Tigers defensively.
