Clemson football will give Notre Dame a not-so-happy welcoming to the ACC

Things may go breezily for Notre Dame right out the gate as they play through their ACC schedule, but there’s a brick wall waiting for the Fighting Irish in the form of the Clemson football program later in November.

Notre Dame was welcomed into the ACC as a full-time temporary member of the conference as a way to give the Fighting Irish some games and, in turn, they agreed to share their prestigious NBC money with the rest of the conference.

While many Fighting Irish fans are already punching their virtual ticket to the CFB Playoff, they seem to forget who the dominant program has been in the ACC for the last half-decade and that won’t bode well for them when they host Clemson football this season.

This Clemson football team is just more talented

Notre Dame can walk around pounding its chest about its dominance in the ACC over the first few weeks. As a matter of fact, other than Pittsburgh, the Fighting Irish will likely be favored by double-digits in each of their games until Clemson.

But then the Tigers come to town. The welcome mat won’t be rolled out in full force then.

It’s not to say that Notre Dame can’t beat Clemson, but there’s just something about this game that screams ‘Tigers’ in a major way. Dabo Swinney is playing Notre Dame as an ACC opponent for the first time. A potential trip to the ACC Championship and to the CFB Playoff will be on the line in this one.

That’s a ton at stake and we all know Clemson football shines the brightest on the biggest stages. Notre Dame, on the other. Well, they’ve fallen short in most recent years past.

My early prediction for this game is pretty simple: Notre Dame won’t know what hit them in November.
