If Clemson & UofSC agree – bad decisions were made
Clemson and South Carolina football fans agreeing on 2020 cancellation means hell may have frozen over.
As you know by now, The Palmetto Bowl will not be played for the first time since 1908. It was the longest continuous rivalry game played in major college football. After the SEC revealed that they would not allow their teams to play outside of the conference in 2020, UofSC fans joined Clemson fans in voicing their displeasure.
It is not often that these two fan bases agree. Usually, when Clemson says its right, UofSC says it’s wrong. When Clemson goes right, the Gamecocks go left. When the Tigers win national championships, the Gamecocks get boat raced in a bowl game by a substandard ACC team.
We do have to tip our cap to UofSC President General (Ret) Caslen. When SEC Presidents voted on the revised 2020 football schedule, he was the lone President to vote against it, which takes guts. Too many times in life we see men and women who are supposed to be leaders, bow to pressure, and follow from behind.
The Palmetto Bowl means everything to the people of South Carolina, it’s our rivalry game and unless you have experienced it, you cannot understand why people from across the state are livid nor can you fathom how much not playing that game means to the fan bases of both schools.
Clemson and South Carolina have never agreed on anything, but they stand together in the decision by the SEC has temporarily ended a rivalry that has been played for 110 years straight for no reason other than poor vision, no foresight, and zero leadership from those that are supposed to lead.
While these two fan bases may never agree on anything again, they do agree that the 2020 Palmetto Bowl should be played. The SEC dropped the ball simply to protect the shield and keep the conference from suffering a few embarrassing out of conference losses in 2020.
