The 2021 Clemson football recruiting class is currently ranked second according to the 247Sports team rankings.

In the latest rankings, several Clemson football commitments have seen movement in their overall standing. Keep in mind, this is according to the individual 247Sports internal rankings and not 247Sports Composite, which takes into all major recruiting service rankings.

Despite the movement, only Ohio State has a better class according to the current rankings, the Buckeyes also have five more current commitments than the Tigers do, though the Buckeyes have a higher per player average than Clemson does.

Several members of the current 2021 class saw their rankings adjusted by 247Sports in their latest release. The odd part of this is, there have been zero camps and zero evaluation periods in order to adjust their previous rankings.

Keeping that in mind, 247Sports dropped California receiver commitment Beaux Collins 67 spots to 178th overall in the class of 2021. Yes, they dropped the elite receiver nearly out of 4-star status despite not having any way to evaluate over the last four months.

Because of their ranking, Collins actually dropped out of the Top 50 Composite Rankings for 2021.

Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney and his entire coaching staff never rely on outside evaluations to determine whether an athlete is right for them or not and this is why. Collins is an absolute stud and will end up being the best receiver in the 2021 class when their college careers are over. For him to drop that far without any legit reasoning is absurd.

Other notable 2021 Clemson football commitments that dropped in the latest 247Sports rankings:

  • Jeremiah Trotter Jr, linebacker; down 1; 26th overall
  • Will Shipley, running back; down 4; 47th overall
  • Jake Briningstool, tight end; down 9; 147th overall

The news was not all bad for Clemson football commitments. Several members of the 2021 class saw their rankings improve over the latest rankings release. Matter of fact, five future Tigers saw an increase in their rankings this week.

The highest jump was made by defensive end commitment Zaire Patterson who moved up five spots overall in the 2021 class according to 247Sports and currently comes in at 94th best prospect in the class.

Other notable 2021 Clemson football commitments that saw a rise in the latest 247Sports rankings:

  • Barrett Carter, linebacker; up 2; 58th overall
  • Jordan Hancock, cornerback, up 4; 41st overall
  • Cade Denhoff, defensive end; up 2; 92nd overall
  • Marcus Tate, guard; up 3; 113th overall

Next. Numbers prove just how dominant Clemson is under Dabo Swinney. dark

Rankings will obviously continue to fluctuate over the next six months until the final class rankings come out in February. As we have learned over the last 10 years under Coach Swinney, the staff evaluations are always better than any recruiting services and regardless of what a service says about these young men, they will develop into great players on the field and even better young men off the field.
