The 2021 Clemson football signing class picked up another highly ranked player on Tuesday afternoon when 4-star defensive end Zaire Patterson committed to the Tigers.

With Clemson football collecting four commitments in May, the number of available scholarships for 2021 is quickly declining and what we know about Clemson football under head coach Dabo Swinney, is they do not over sign.

Sure, Clemson may end up with an extra scholarship or two after the early signing period as players declare early for the NFL draft or decide to transfer, but that never factors into the early numbers that he has reserved for the class.

As much as this will make some Clemson football fans cringe, this closes the door on Korey Foreman becoming a Tiger.

This is not a bad thing given the history of Clemson football development and the defensive lineman that they sign.

It may be hard to see now because of his frame, but Zaire Patterson will be better than Korey Foreman. Patterson has played football for just two seasons and has made unbelievable strides to get to this point. In the last six months alone, he has jumped more than 100 places on 247Sports recruiting rankings.

Regardless of where Foreman ends up, they are not going to develop him the way that defensive line coach Todd Bates will. He won’t get the weight room development like he would under head strength coach Joey Batson and will not get the overall character development that he would have under the PAW journey.

However, Zaire Patterson will and Clemson football and the Clemson family will be better off because of this.

Remember, how upset you were back in 2013 when Robert Nkemdiche decided to de-commit and go to Ole Miss? Clemson football turned out just fine and that 2013 singing class was a big reason that Clemson jumped into the national stage in 2015 and is where they are currently at the top of college football.

Some fans spend too much time worrying about players that aren’t at Clemson or don’t want to be at Clemson instead of celebrating those that do choose to become Tigers for life.

Patterson may only be a Tiger because Foreman de-committed but everything happens for a reason and I couldn’t more excited to have a young man with his upside wearing purple and orange for four seasons.
