The Clemson football team is considered one of the favorites to win the National Championship in 2020 and that can be seen in the latest preseason rankings.
The 2020 Clemson football team will enter the season with expectations and goals through-the-roof.
The Tigers are currently considered one of the odds-on favorites to win the National Championship and there’s no reason to believe that anything other than themselves will get in the way of at least getting back to the CFB Playoff for a sixth-straight season.
Athlon Sports released its preseason top-25 for the upcoming season and had Clemson football ranked as the No. 1 team in the land.
Here’s a look at the top-15, according to Athlon Sports:
- Clemson
- Alabama
- Ohio State
- Oklahoma
- Penn State
- Florida
- Georgia
- LSU
- Notre Dame
- Oregon
- Texas A&M
- Wisconsin
- Auburn
- Oklahoma State
- Michigan
For those wondering, there were two more ACC teams- UNC at No. 18; Virginia Tech at No. 24- to make the top-25.
Analysis:
When looking at the top-15, the first thing that pops out to me is that Alabama is ranked ahead of Ohio State.
While the Crimson Tide are certainly talented and will have an opportunity to bounce back after a down year in 2019, I really believe the top two teams in the nation are Clemson and Ohio State, in that order.
The Tigers and Buckeyes return plenty of talent and are led by returners at quarterback in Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) and Justin Fields (Ohio State). Those two guys are the current leaders in Heisman odds and there doesn’t seem to be anything standing in the way of them competing against each other for a second-straight season.
While Alabama returns plenty of talent, the Crimson Tide still have a few question marks and are going to have an unproven starter at quarterback- no matter which direction they choose to go.
After those three programs, it’s really just a guessing game as to who you want ranked where.
