Clemson football fans are waiting with the rest of the country to find out if we will have a football season and what it could look like.

Clemson football nation- along with the rest of the country- is waiting patiently to see what will happen over the course of the net few weeks and months as we prepare and hope for a football season.

While there certainly isn’t any clarity as to what will happen here in the middle of May, it’s apparent that Power-5 conferences and the NCAA are working tirelessly to come up with scenarios and ways to make it happen.

ACC Commissioner John Swofford spoke with the media remotely on Thursday afternoon and said there are four scenarios that the league is currently considering:

  1. Playing football as scheduled.
  2. Playing football, but with a shortened season or a potential delayed start.
  3. No football, but playing basketball
  4. No sports for the 2020-21 academic year

Swofford said at this point he believes that the last two scenarios don’t seem likely and that he is “anticipating” playing a football season. He also indicated that the conference could play or start at different times even if some of the institutions within the conference were not able to.

One interesting point that is gaining a lot of steam on this is his answer to playing sports even if students aren’t on campus. Swofford said the idea is “foreign to him.”

Though conference commissioners- and the NCAA, for that matter- want students to be on campus to play sports, nothing has been ruled out at this point.

It will be interesting to see what happens and what the season looks like if it does happen, but Clemson football fans should feel pretty positive right now that the season will, in some form or fashion, be played.

Swofford and the rest of the voices around College Football continue to sound hopeful and optimistic about the start of the season, which is a far cry from where we were two weeks ago when the vast majority of voices were pessimistic and doubtful.
