Despite the dominance of the Clemson football program over the last half-decade, it seems that the Tennessee Volunteers believe they could make a run.

The Clemson football program has dominated the world of College Football over the course of the last half-decade.

The Tigers have made five-straight CFB Playoff appearances, won five-straight ACC Championships, won two National Titles and made four National Title appearances in the span of just five seasons.

All that succeeds is a perfect breeding ground for jealousy from opposing fan bases and it seems that one SEC fan base believes their time is finally coming.

Over the past couple of weeks, perhaps no one has been hotter on the recruiting trail than the Tennessee Volunteers. Tennessee has picked up commitments from 14 prospects in the past two months and that includes two 5-stars and six 4-stars.

With all of those commitments, Tennessee moved ahead of Clemson in the latest recruiting rankings and the Volunteers are considered as high as No. 2 in the nation currently, depending on which recruiting service you look at.

Tennessee has the highest-rated class in the SEC and it seems the Volunteers have put together quite the amount of talent in their 2021 recruiting class. All of that excitement, though, may have gone to Vol fans’ heads.

It’s okay to celebrate recruiting victories- they are fun. But the truth of the matter is that champions don’t celebrate recruiting rankings in May.

Tennessee may be building a program and there may be a resurgence on the way in the next few years, but there’s a reason that Clemson has remained at the top for more than half of a decade now.

The Tigers aren’t just recruiting at an elite level. They’re developing and keeping their coaching staff intact.

There’s a lot that has to fall into place for Tennessee to come back as a dominant program, but it will be interesting to see what happens with the Vols in the next few seasons.
