One of the true-freshmen with the greatest opportunity to make an early impact for the Clemson football program is LB Trenton Simpson.

The Clemson football program is loaded with talent and, as a result, the Tigers are considered one of the favorites to get back to the National Championship game.

Over the past half-decade, Clemson has won the ACC Championship every year and the Tigers have also brought home two National Titles. In addition to those National Championship wins, Clemson has also competed in the Title Game in four of the last five seasons.

One of the Clemson football players who has followed the program through the thick and thin is LB Trenton Simpson.

Simpson, who was a late target during the 2020 recruiting cycle, committed on the spot when Dabo Swinney officially made the scholarship offer. Simpson, a Charlotte native, grew up watching Clemson football and even bought tickets and watched the ACC Championship, where the Tigers defeated the Virginia Cavaliers, this past December.

Now, he’s enrolled and has a prime opportunity to make an impact.

The Clemson football program is looking to replace Isaiah Simmons– perhaps the greatest SAM/Nickel LB in the history of the program- and will rely on redshirt sophomore Mike Jones Jr. to do so. Though Jones Jr. will get the first shot, there’s a real chance that we see Simpson listed as his back-up.

There are a few linebackers who’ll compete, but no one can deny the versatility and pure-athleticism that Simpson possesses. As a result, he’ll have an opportunity to prove himself in coverage and let that versatility be on display.

Next. Myles Murphy didn't come to redshirt. dark

If he can do that, there’s no reason to believe the true-freshman won’t be inserted into the lineup at times during the 2020 Clemson football season with an opportunity to make a major impact along the front-seven of that Tiger defense.
