The Clemson football RB room is one of the deepest in the country as we head into the 2020 season. Here’s our pre-spring analysis.

The running back position for the 2020 Clemson football team has just as much talent as any group we’ve seen in the country.

The Tigers return several veterans and will add promising young talent to the room, as well.

Here’s a look at our pre-spring depth chart prediction and analysis for the position.

Pre-Spring Depth Chart Projection:

Starter: Travis Etienne

Analysis:

This is the depth chart before we add 5-star RB Demarkcus Bowman and 4-star RB Kobe Pryor to the fold. Talk about an insane amount of depth.

Neither Bowman nor Pryor will be on campus for the spring and that will give Mellusi, Dukes and Rencher, in particular, a chance to separate themselves.

Right now, the 1-2 punch is pretty clear with Etienne returning in his starter role and Dixon looking to earn more carries this season as the second-stringer.

Both sophomore running backs now have a year of experience under their belts and Rencher- the third-stringer last season- will return for his final year of eligibility. Right now, the above order is how I see things shaping out as the spring progresses before the two freshmen arrive on campus. Mellusi showed the most promise carrying the ball, but the Tigers may very well rely on Rencher for his pass-blocking ability if the two younger guys don’t develop over the spring and summer.

It should be mentioned that there’s obviously an opportunity that a player transfers following the spring for a chance to gain more playing time elsewhere.

Etienne is going to get his fair share of touches and there’s no questioning the amount of talent, depth and experience that this running back group brings to the Clemson football program in 2020. It’s going to be fun to watch and see how Tony Elliott gets all of these play-makers on the field and what the rotation looks like as we get into fall camp in just a few months.
