Clemson football QB Trevor Lawrence is currently tied as a leader in way-too-early Heisman odds for the 2020 season.

The Clemson football program has its best shot at a Heisman winner this coming season since Deshaun Watson in 2016.

Trevor Lawrence enters the 2020 Clemson football season as a heavy favorite to win the Heisman, according to way-too-early odds.

Lawrence is currently tied with Ohio State QB Justin Fields at 4/1 odds. Here’s a look at the top Heisman contenders for the 2020 season here in early February, according to CBS.

Thoughts:

Lawrence and Fields should certainly be the favorites coming into the season. Fields is the only returning player in the country to go to New York last year and Lawrence is likely to be the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Travis Etienne comes in at 20/1 odds, tied with Chuba Hubbard as the first two running backs to make the list.

Though it can’t be sure who will be the guys to make a leap into the conversation, I think we can probably go ahead and knock off a few- like Mac Jones, Kedon Slovis and D’Eriq King. Let’s be real, Jones isn’t going to start for Alabama this season.

Overall, this list shows the openness for a guy like Lawrence or Etienne to step up and win it for the Clemson football program.

The Heisman isn’t an award that the Tigers place importance on and you know that there will be barriers when Lawrence and Etienne are resting full halves of games, but there’s still no reason to believe that they couldn’t compete this season and, potentially, come away with some hardware.
