Can Brent Venables find a way to slow down Joe Burrow and that prolific offensive attack? How much success will Trevor Lawrence and that Tiger offense have against LSU?
Here’s a look at our staff predictions for the big game Monday night.
Shawn Spencer
Score: Clemson 38, LSU 34
Reason: The ACC Tigers find a way to make LSU settle for a couple of field goals in the redzone as they did against Ohio State and Trevor Lawrence has a big day. All of that results in Dabo Swinney hoisting the big golden scepter for a third time.
Cole Little
Score: Clemson 38, LSU 35
Reason: It would only be fitting if a season that has seen Clemson live out a unique underdog story of sorts ended with the ACC Tigers pulling off an upset in the national title game. LSU will essentially have home-field advantage at the Superdome, but expect Clemson to persevere and make critical plays down the stretch en route to winning the battle of the Tigers.
Tyreese Ingram
Score: Clemson 35, LSU 26
Reason: The Tigers will allow LSU Clyde Edwards-Helaire to get yards but limit the passing game to intermediate routes and not allow the deep balls. On offense, running back Travis Etienne will have the homecoming he was dreaming of and rush for over 150 yards with three total touchdowns while quarterback Trevor Lawrence find enough down field throws to balance the offense.
Nick Young
Score: LSU 28, Clemson 21
Reason: While I love the Tigers and Trevor Lawrence, after the blowout game against Oklahoma I have to go LSU here. Burrow is commanding that offense at a whole different level and their defense, I believe, will have a better time stopping Lawrence than we will have slowing down Burrow.
