The Clemson football defense needs to step up against LSU and, for some reason, we believe the secondary will surprise the nation.

The Clemson football team will be facing an LSU offense that is considered by many to be one of the best in the history of College Football.

LSU ranks No. 1 in almost every major offensive category and it’s clear that the Tigers have had an explosive attack throughout the season.

As we head into the National Championship, many analysts have harped on the belief that Clemson football won’t be able to slow down the LSU offense. Many believe that LSU is just too talented and that the Tigers have too many options- especially in that passing attack- to be slowed down by any defense.

Several national analysts have pointed to Tanner Muse, specifically, and the Tigers’ lack-of-ability to cover during the season as a reason to believe that LSU will be able to run roughshod on that Clemson defense.

That being said, there’s something about this match-up that makes me believe we’ll see Muse, K’Von Wallace, Nolan Turner and those Clemson cornerbacks play their best game of the season.

The Tigers always step up when the stage is big. Many remember last season when the secondary was actually a strong weakness for the Clemson football defense. The Tigers had struggled in several games all season and were highlighted as a reason that Tua Tagovailoa and the prolific Alabama offense would cruise to another National Title.

What happened on the very first play from scrimmage? A.J. Terrell came up with a pick-six.

This Clemson secondary is much better this season than it has been in the past. The Tigers are going to show some different looks, use extra speed on the field and mix up formations to attempt to confuse Joe Burrow and get after him, as well.

Look for this defensive backfield to surprise some people Monday night. Will they play a flawless game? Probably not. But I expect a great effort and nice production as they look to slow down and contain the most prolific passing game in the country.
