Clemson Football: 5-star Myles Murphy has elite-level explosiveness

Despite the fact that Clemson football returns its entire defensive line, 5-star DE Myles Murphy has the talent and explosiveness to compete.

5-star DE Myles Murphy put ‘pen to paper’ Wednesday during the Early National Signing Period when he officially signed with Clemson football.

The Clemson football coaching staff received a commitment from Murphy earlier this summer and he has been 100 percent ‘All-In’ ever sense.

One of the great attributes with Murphy is his off-the-field character and work ethic. Murphy carefully examined each school during his recruitment process. He knew he wanted to major in Engineering, so he paid close attention to the academic-side of the schools he was pursuing, perhaps just as much or more than the football aspect.

On the field, Murphy is one of the most balanced defensive ends in this recruiting cycle.

The 5-star DE has been consistently near the top of every recruiting board for his ability as a pass-rusher, and strength as a run-stopper. Because of that explosiveness, Murphy is going to be able to compete as a freshman despite the Tigers returning their entire defensive line.

Murphy won’t be listed in the two-deep next season when the Tigers release their depth chart at defensive end. Assuming no transfers, the Tigers will have Xavier Thomas, KJ Henry, Justin Foster, Logan Rudolph and Justin Mascoll all returning at the position.

Even though there’s plenty of talent and experience ahead of him, Murphy is going to make an impact at the position.

He’ll have the benefit of being able to learn and train under veterans all the while competing for playing time on the field. The depth on the Clemson football defensive line is unreal heading into 2020 and it’s absolutely crazy that the Tigers will have a 5-star in their three-deep as talented as Murphy.
