Many Clemson football fans are already beginning to worry about the Tigers’ path to the CFB Playoff, but it’s too early for talk about the postseason.

Every week, we hear analysts discussing Clemson football in the context of the CFB Playoff.

Analysts release weekly rankings revealing their top-four and who they think should be in the CFB Playoff, but the truth is that it’s just too early to talk about the CFB Playoff.

At this point in October, we think every team is going to go undefeated. We never consider upsets or see them with foresight. They take us by surprise. That’s the beauty of College Football.

Currently, there are seven programs still left undefeated in the top-10 of the AP Poll but it won’t remain that way. Here’s a look at the true current CFB Playoff contenders by conference.

ACC: Clemson

Big Ten: Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State

Big 12: Oklahoma

Pac-12: None.

SEC: Alabama, LSU

There are several other teams that still have an outside shot. Teams like Florida, Georgia, Utah, Oregon, Boise State, Michigan, Notre Dame and even Baylor have one loss- or no losses in the case of Boise State and Baylor- and could work their way back into the CFB Playoff picture.

But, for now, you can’t consider them over those undefeated listed above. Right now, many are trying to set up a circumstance where the loser of Alabama-LSU can still get into the playoff over an undefeated Clemson football team or a one-loss conference champion (say Ohio State or Oklahoma lose), but the truth is that it’s just too early for talks like this. Who’s to say that the loser of that game doesn’t go on to lose to Auburn? Maybe Texas A&M comes away with an upset over LSU?

Upsets are going to happen. There’s no way that we see all of the undefeated teams above remain undefeated. Many of these one-loss teams who still have an outside shot are going to lose, as well.

Every year in October we think we’re going to have too many playoff contenders. By the end of the month, and especially as we get into November, things start to work themselves out. All Clemson football needs to worry about right now is continuing to win because everything else will take care of itself.
