A video of Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney going off on a rant defending Trevor Lawrence went viral. No matter how you feel, one thing is for sure.

A viral video took the internet by storm Wednesday evening and Thursday morning surrounding Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney.

Swinney was asked by a reporter to confirm whether or not Trevor Lawrence had an MRI on his shoulder earlier in the season. Reports and rumors had been thrown around for the past couple of weeks about the extent of the Clemson football quarterback’s injury.

Swinney did not take kindly to the question and, in turn, went on a rant about the health of Trevor Lawrence and how he attempts to be transparent in running the Clemson football program.

Swinney said he received a text from a media member late Tuesday night asking about Lawrence’s injury. He told the media was irritated by the text and said it came off as if the Tigers were conspiring and intentionally withholding information from the public about their star quarterback.

There are two sides to every story and it’s easy to see both here.

The reporter has to ask the question. They’ve been given information from a trusted source and it’s their job to ask and seek out what’s going on. There have been questions about Lawrence’s performance and a bruised shoulder could certainly be an indicator of why he has missed on some passes.

On the other hand, Dabo Swinney is aware of HIPAA requirements and basically said that this is a non-story. He noted that the Tigers ran Trevor Lawrence several times, including near the goal line. They wouldn’t do that if he wasn’t healthy.

He said that players get MRIs all the time for any type of minor injury or bruise as a safety precaution and it’s certainly not his duty to reveal health information to the public every time a player has any type of bruise. In my opinion, this probably has more to do with frustration from outside voices in the media that extends past the Trevor Lawrence issue.

Either way you look at it, one thing’s for sure: This bodes well for Clemson football.

After Swinney pulled back out the ROY bus at his Tuesday press conference, you could tell that he was a bit more zeroed in than in previous weeks.

Now, he’s being irritated by media members and going off on rants. It’s clear Swinney is ready to get back out on the football field and he feels his team has a lot to prove.

Likely that means we will see a focused, and dialed-in Tiger team Saturday afternoon when they take on the Florida State Seminoles.
