The Clemson football offense has missed the explosiveness of Justyn Ross, but don’t worry Tiger fans- The Lawrence-Ross connection is about to return.

Through the first five games of the Clemson football season, Justyn Ross has 18 catches for 218 yards (12.1 YPC) and a touchdown.

To be fair, Ross has played in just four games since he missed the Charlotte game with an injury, but that still is an average of 4.5 catches per game for 54.5 yards, which is well below what Tiger fans saw him averaging and doing at the end of the 2018 Clemson football season.

At the end of 2018, Ross was absolutely tearing secondaries and he was a nightmare for opposing defenses. He man-handled the Alabama secondary on his way to six catches for 153 yards (25.5 YPC) and a touchdown.

We had grown accustomed to seeing Ross make big plays in the passing game, most of which involved him going one-on-one with a defensive back and making a spectacular catch. To this point in the season, we just haven’t seen that too much.

Don’t worry, Clemson football fans. The Trevor LawrenceJustyn Ross connection is about to return.

Through the first part of this season, we’ve seen Tee Higgins as Lawrence’s favorite target. We’ve also seen Amari Rodgers make some plays. As the Tigers begin to open up the offense over the course of these next few weeks, looking for options over the middle and attack the defense, I think we will see the Lawrence-Ross connection return.

It won’t take anything away from what Tee Higgins or Amari Rodgers are doing, but it will give the Tiger offense another weapon and add pressure on the defense.

There’s not much reason as to why Justyn Ross has been quiet this year. But, there’s something that tells me it won’t remain that way over the course of these next few weeks.
