Clemson Football: Tigers aren’t unbeatable; Neither is anyone else
We’ve heard for quite a while now about the weaknesses and flaws of the 2019 Clemson football team, but no one wants to bring up any other CFB team.
Ever since Clemson football escaped Chapel Hill with a 21-20 victory over the UNC Tar Heels, we’ve heard several national analysts talk about the weaknesses of the Tigers.
Paul Finebaum has seemingly had a weekly segment talking about how ‘Insert Team’s Name Here’ would beat the Tigers.
Everyone wants to jump off the Clemson football bandwagon and act as if the Tigers just can’t overcome these early season issues. Everyone seems to forget that Clemson has struggled early in the season each of the last few seasons and the Tigers still have put a pretty good team on the field when it came time for the CFB Playoff.
It’s not just Paul Finebaum propping up Alabama or LSU, though. It’s Ohio State analysts and fans talking about how they’re the best team in the nation. It’s even Florida and Oklahoma fans living off the hype they’ve seen from the early part of the season.
For some reason, no one seems to have any flaws in the eyes of the nation except Clemson football.
People forget that Alabama’s defense has looked absolutely atrocious. The Crimson Tide haven’t stopped anyone to this point, but just because they have a vaunted offense- which they did last season as well- they’re a sure pick as one of the top teams in the nation.
LSU can score at a high-clip, but the Tigers can’t stop anyone with a pulse offensively. But, because LSU can score we just decide to overlook all of their flaws.
Oklahoma and Ohio State have looked impressive, but neither one of those teams have played anybody. Yes, the Buckeyes have wins over Nebraska and Michigan State, but let’s not pretend that either of those teams are truly top-25 programs. Michigan State’s defense would struggle against spread offense with a pulse, they just don’t have any speed.
Florida gets credit for beating Auburn, but anyone that watched that game knows neither team looked good. It was turnover city and the Gators haven’t proved that they can score at all.
This point is this: Does Clemson football have flaws? Yes. The Tigers can be beaten any given Saturday, but so can anyone else. It’s absolutely ridiculous to think that none of these other teams- Oklahoma, Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, Florida and Georgia- won’t struggle this season. They’re all going to struggle at some point because they all have flaws.
No team in CFB is free of flaws.
The only difference is this: Clemson isn’t trying to be the National Champion in September. Everyone else is.
