It’s clear that the Clemson football offense is missing the impact and production by WR Hunter Renfrow, who is now in an Oakland Raider uniform.

The Clemson football program was impacted greatly by the performance and production of WR Hunter Renfrow.

Renfrow became a safety blanket over his time with the Tigers for QBs Deshaun Watson, Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence last season. During his time, he helped Clemson football win two National Championships and was a key contributor offensively.

Though Renfrow didn’t put up huge stats or catch a bunch of touchdowns, he did the ‘dirty work’ for the offense and helped keep drives going. There were countless times over his career where Renfrow would make a key grab on a 3rd-and-moderate situation that would later lead to a touchdown.

He was key in the underneath game and made defenses respect the Tigers in middle-yardage passing situations because of his great hands and ability to find the opening in zone-coverages and pick up the first down.

It’s clear that Clemson football, specifically Trevor Lawrence, is missing Hunter Renfrow through the first part of 2019.

Even though Renfrow didn’t have a ton of highlight-reel grabs- though he did have quite a few– he was a key piece of the offense. So far, Clemson hasn’t found that contributor who can beat defenses underneath.

The Tigers have the deep-ball threats like Tee Higgins, Justyn Ross, Joseph Ngata and even Frank Ladson. Diondre Overton hasn’t quite been able to make the impact in the slot. Amari Rodgers has done a solid job playing the ‘field’ spot, but hasn’t been a consistent underneath option for Lawrence in moderate 3rd down situations.

For Clemson to succeed in the second half of this season, the Tigers need to find a wide receiver option who can be a safety blanket for Trevor Lawrence. It needs to be more than sideline and back-shoulder fades.

Clemson needs a player who can run that underneath route, get open and find the hole in the coverage. That’s missing to this point, but hopefully the Tigers can figure it out over the course of the next few weeks.
