After their second win of the season, North Carolina Tarheel fans believe they’re ready to compete with the Clemson football program.

Be careful what you wish for.

After defeating Miami 28-25 at home Saturday, North Carolina fans had a new hope under the leadership of Coach Mack Brown that hadn’t been there for quite some time.

To open up the 2019 season, the Tarheels defeated South Carolina in Charlotte. As they improved to 2-0 this past weekend, Tarheel fans took it to a whole new level exclaiming that they wanted Clemson football.

"“As North Carolina fans and students shuffled out of Kenan Stadium on Saturday night, shouts of “WE WANT CLEMSON!! WE WANT CLEMSON!!” rang through thick, electric early September air,” said UNC Insider Ross Martin, of 247 Sports."

There’s certainly momentum in Chapel Hill. Mack Brown has breathed new life into that program through his recruiting and by winning these first two games to open up the season. The Tarheels have a true-freshman quarterback in Sam Howell who has been solid and there’s a new excitement unlike anything we’ve seen in that program in the past few years.

That being said, UNC fans should be careful what they wish for. Obviously, any rational fan would still acknowledge that Clemson football is the better team far and away. There have been other fan bases around the country to exclaim that they wanted the Tigers and none of those turned out well [see LSU, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas A&M and Miami for examples]. It won’t turn out well for the Tarheels, either.

Dabo Swinney has this Clemson football program at whole different level.

Mack Brown respects Swinney and I don’t expect that we’ll hear much trash talk from the Tarheels heading into that game in just a few weeks, but this still will be bulletin board material for the Tigers coming into the match up.

Clemson will travel to North Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Kenan Stadium will be sold out and there will be a lot of Tarheel fans there hoping for an upset, but the truth is that they don’t want Clemson. It’s not a shot, it’s just reality.
