It’s officially game day for the Clemson football team. Here are some last minute predictions for the Tigers’ match up with Georgia Tech.

The Clemson football team will open up the 2019 season with a game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The conference match up will be broadcasted live on the ACC Network and will be featured on ESPN College GameDay prior to kickoff. The Tigers enter the season looking to repeat as National Champions and certainly have the talent, skill and depth to get back to the CFB Playoff and make a run.

That potential championship run begins with Georgia Tech Thursday night. As we prepare for the Clemson football season-opener, here are a few last minute predictions for the Tigers’ match up with the Yellow Jackets.

Last Minute Predictions:

  • Who scores the first TD?

Who scores the first touchdown of the season? After going through options, we’re going to predict that you see Trevor Lawrence hit Tee Higgins on a bomb to open up the scoring early on in the game. Travis Etienne is, obviously, the safe choice, but there’s just a feeling that the Tigers are going to come out on the first drive and take a shot down the field.

  • Derion Kendrick has an INT

Derion Kendrick, the former Clemson football wide receiver, is now the starter at cornerback. We predict that Kendrick makes a statement Thursday evening and comes away with an interception. He’ll be looking for an opportunity and anything thrown his way could very well be picked off, especially with those Georgia Tech quarterbacks.

  • Lyn-J Dixon impresses

We all know about Travis Etienne and what he is capable of doing in the run game. We all know about the vaunted passing attack that Clemson possesses, but now we’re going to get to see more than just flashes of Lyn-J Dixon.

Dixon is going to impress the Tiger faithful and come away with a nice stat line Thursday night in Death Valley.

  • Xavier Thomas explosive play

Xavier Thomas has had his offs-and-ons with the coaching staff over the course of fall camp, but it’s clear that the sophomore did a much better job in the second half of camp and now is listed as a co-starter at defensive end.

It won’t be long into the game before we see an explosive sack or hit from Thomas. He’s just too fast, athletic and physical to be held back for too long.

  • A Different Vibe

I think we’re going to feel a very different vibe from this Clemson football team compared to years in the past. It’s not necessarily something that will be easy to put your finger on, but this team is going to have a dominant look in its eye.

You’re not going to see them ‘play around’ with opponents like teams in the past sometimes did for a half or so. Instead, I think you’re going to see a ‘cold-blooded’ approach- especially from that offense- and some points put up rather early and in droves.
