Can the 2019 Clemson football team handle success? That could be the key to the Tigers’ quest for a repeat in the National Championship.

Can the Clemson football program handle success?

The days of being the underdog are long gone for the Tigers and now Clemson will be playing from an unfamiliar role: A the top of the CFB world.

Even though SEC media attempted to discredit Clemson football throughout the offseason, both the coaches and the national media showed what they thought about the Tigers in the release of the preseason 2019 AP and Coaches’ Polls.

The Tigers are now considered the dominant powerhouse of College Football, as they should be. FS1’s Colin Cowherd said that this 2019 Clemson football team could potentially be the best team we’ve ever seen in College Football history. Clemson is no longer disrespected, except by a select few in the SEC who want to live in the past.

With all of the success comes a new challenge: Staying on Top.

Dabo Swinney has done an excellent job motivating his program even when they were heavy favorites the past few seasons. In the eyes of the College Football world, the Tigers have arrived. So, it begs the question: Can Clemson football handle the success?

Can this 2019 Tiger team remain focused despite the fact that they could be favored by almost 20 points or more in every game this season? Can this team continue its quest for dominance despite knowing they just beat Alabama 44-16 in the National Championship? Despite Colin Cowherd calling them the potential ‘best team ever?’ Despite knowing that you have more talent and depth than basically any other program in the country?

Typically, you see College Football programs falter when they get to this stage. They don’t handle the success as they should. The young football players don’t focus as they should or they take their eyes off the goals of the team.

The only thing stopping Clemson is Clemson. The Tigers have the talent, depth and skill to repeat as National Champions, but they have to show up week-in and week-out ready to play.

The question for this 2019 Clemson football season has nothing to do with position battles, replacing talent or overcoming a tough environment or opponent. The Tigers are in control of their own destiny and the only thing standing in their way is themselves.

Can they overcome the success- as odd as that sounds- and remain focused? That’s the question for this season.
