Clemson football freshman WR Joseph Ngata is already stepping into a major role. The true-freshman is going to play a ton of snaps in 2019.

The Clemson football wide receiver group is one of the deepest and most talented units in the country.

The Tigers return two of the nation’s top wide receivers in Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross to headline the group, but there are several other talented play-makers that help fill out the depth.

From veterans like Diondre Overton, TJ Chase and Cornell Powell, as well as Amari Rodgers who will be returning from injury soon, to young stars, there’s plenty of talent to go around.

One freshman that Dabo Swinney has not been able to say enough nice things about is Joseph Ngata.

Ngata, a 5-star, stepped on to campus in January and immediately began to make an impact. The Clemson football freshman impressed during spring camp and made a couple of impressive plays during the Tigers’ spring game.

During the summer, he put on a little more weight and is now sitting at 6-foot-4 and 218 pounds. That’s not a normal freshman.

For reference, Justyn Ross is currently 6-foot-4 and 211 pounds and Tee Higgins is also 6-foot-4 and 217 pounds. That means Ngata already has more size than both of the Tigers’ premiere wide receivers.

Even though he’s strong, Ngata also is able to play with some speed around the edge. He can make plays in one-on-one situations and is also doing a great job with his footwork in route-running. When you put all of that together, you’ve got a complete wide receiver who is ready to contribute.

Through the first half of fall camp, it’s clear that Joseph Ngata has been one of the standouts.

There’s no reason to believe that true-freshman won’t continue to impress and earn himself playing time in his first season with Clemson football.
