The Alabama revenge tour based on beating Clemson football could come crashing down if the Tide somehow missed the CFB Playoff.

ESPN has vaunted the ‘Alabama Revenge Tour’ as part of its preseason coverage for the 2019 season.

The last time we saw the Crimson Tide, they were getting beat 44-16 at the hands of a talented Clemson football team. As we head into this season, Alabama is looking for revenge on the Tigers and it’s clear that the goal is for the Crimson Tide to get back to the CFB Playoff and win the National Championship.

However, we’ve had many Clemson football fans- and fans of other teams- ask us if there’s a chance Alabama misses the CFB Playoff this season.

Many are, perhaps, banking on the rise of Georgia to national prominence and believe that the Bulldogs will come away with an SEC Championship. Even so, it would extremely surprising to see a playoff that didn’t include the Crimson Tide.

Alabama has a built-in loss on its schedule. As a matter of fact, the Crimson Tide might be able to lose two games and still be looked upon more favorably than a one-loss conference champion.

Because of that, it will be nearly impossible for Alabama to miss the CFB Playoff.

Other than a complete meltdown, the only way it happens is if Alabama loses a game in the regular season and loses the SEC Championship. In addition to those two losses, you’d need several one-loss or maybe even no-loss conference champions.

Many who are predicting Alabama to be out of the CFB Playoff forget the amount of talent the Crimson Tide possess compared to the rest of their schedule. Alabama is still the dominant force in the SEC West and, though they have competition for the SEC Championship in Georgia, they still have the favor of the CFB Playoff committee. The committee will work to include the Tide at pretty much any cost.

Though we believe that the Clemson football program has risen to the level of being the premiere program in the nation, it’s not necessarily time to call for the ‘downfall’ of Alabama. The Crimson Tide still have plenty of talent and though they may be slipping away from being the only dominant force in College Football, missing the playoff would be a whole different level.

Could it happen? Yes. Is it likely? We certainly wouldn’t bet on it at this point.
