Clemson football will host ESPN College GameDay to open up the 2019 season in what is sure to be a celebration of the Tiger program.

ESPN College GameDay announced that it would be heading down to Clemson to open up the 2019 season.

The Tigers will host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. The popular show will air live beginning at 6 p.m. and lead into kickoff. The first hour of the show will be broadcast live on ESPN and the second hour will be on the ACC Network.

As previously announced, the game will air on the ACC Network as the network’s debut live game. Clemson football is coming off a 15-0 season and the Tigers enter 2019 as one of the favorites to get back to the CFB Playoff and compete for yet another National Championship.

Most likely, ESPN College GameDay will take a national approach to the first hour of its show and the panel of experts will begin by looking at the nation as a whole.

However, it’s clear that the group will also focus specifically on the ACC in the broadcast and that means there will be a huge celebration of Clemson football.

It’s likely that we’ll see several features pertaining to Clemson, especially on topics like Dabo Swinney, Trevor Lawrence and replacing the Power Rangers. The crew will likely discuss Clemson-Alabama and how the Tigers have ascended to the top of the nation.

Either way, it’s clear that this broadcast is only being done to celebrate Clemson and promote the ACC Network. The game itself isn’t expected to be all that competitive or intriguing, and I highly doubt we’ll hear ESPN College GameDay break down Clemson vs. Georgia Tech in much depth. Instead, expect them to focus on the Tigers and the success expected ahead.

It will be almost as if ESPN College GameDay showed up in Clemson just to talk about the Tigers. An exclusive broadcast.

This is the first time since 2016 that ESPN College GameDay will be in Tiger Town. The last time the crew was in town was when Clemson took on the No. 3-rated Louisville Cardinals in Death Valley.
