Today, we conclude our position-by-position analysis of the 2019 Clemson football team by taking a look at the safeties.

Throughout the past few weeks, Rubbing the Rock has given you a positional breakdown of each unit on the 2019 Clemson football team.

The Tigers will be looking to defend their National Title this upcoming season and are one of the clear-cut favorites to get back to the CFB Playoff.

To conclude our position-by-position analysis series, let’s take a look at the safeties for Clemson football.

Projected Depth Chart:

FS: Tanner Muse

  • Nolan Turner
  • Lannden Zanders

SS: K’Von Wallace

  • Denzel Johnson or Joseph Charleston

Safeties Preview:

Starting from the top, Clemson returns both of its starters at safety from last season. K’Von Wallace and Tanner Muse return for their final year of eligibility with something to prove.

Both guys had times last season that they were out of position or got beat in coverage. Despite that, they played a couple of really good games in the CFB Playoff against the likes of Notre Dame and Alabama. The Clemson football coaching staff is hoping the two safeties can build off those performances this season.

If both Muse and Wallace can continue to improve, the Tigers could have one of the best defensive backfields in the nation. Both are experienced and know what to expect at the position. Because of that, there’s reason to believe they’ll take steps forward not just in their athletic abilities, but in leadership as well.

Behind Muse and Wallace, the Tigers will have experience in the two-deep and promising talent in the three-deep. Expect Nolan Turner and Denzel Johnson to get the majority of the snaps behind those two starters with a couple of true-freshmen being rotated in, as well.

In particular, we are excited to see Joseph Charleston- the 4-star S- play this season. Charleston has a bright future ahead of him and getting tolearn position behind a K’Von Wallace will be a big asset to the freshman as he begins his collegiate career.
