ESPN released its preseason CFB Power Rankings for 2019. Here’s a look at where the Clemson football team is ranked and how the rest shapes out.

ESPN released its preseason CFB Power Rankings for the 2019 season and the network has Clemson football ranked as the No. 1 team in the country.

A panel of experts weighed in on making the decisions in the rankings and, ultimately, they chose to list the Tigers at No. 1 to begin the year.

Of course, that should come as no surprise for those that saw Clemson football in the National Championship game. The Tigers were absolutely dominant in a 44-16 victory over Alabama and proved to the nation that the program was here to stay.

Here’s a look at the top-10 for ESPN’s preseason College Football Power Rankings.

  1. Clemson
  2. Alabama
  3. Georgia
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Ohio State
  6. Michigan
  7. LSU
  8. Notre Dame
  9. Florida
  10. Texas

Thoughts:

When looking at the top-10, I just don’t see what national analysts are seeing in Michigan. The Wolverines do have Shea Patterson returning at QB, but the last time we saw them they were getting absolutely destroyed by a sub-par Florida team. That Big Ten conference continues to remain inflated in the eyes of the media and it certainly shows with the power rankings having Michigan at No. 6.

It’s a bit surprising to see Notre Dame ranked at No. 8 considering what the Irish are losing and how they were beaten down by Clemson in the CFB Playoff semifinals. Florida at No. 9 is a bit high, in my opinion, just based off the fact that the Gators may have a decent quarterback in Feleipe Franks, but still have no offensive weapons.

Overall, the rankings prove an overarching point: It’s really Alabama, Clemson and then everyone else. Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State are on a platform below the Tigers and Tide and then everybody else is on a platform below those three programs. Perhaps a program makes a rise, but right now it seems that we’ll continue to see Clemson and Alabama on top as other programs around the nation chase behind.
