The 2019 Clemson football season is just a few weeks away from officially being underway. Here’s our preview for the wide receivers.

In just a few more weeks, we’ll officially have Clemson football.

Tiger fans have waited for several months to see the Clemson football team back in Death Valley and they’re finally about to get that opportunity.

Over the course of the next few weeks, Rubbing the Rock will be giving you a complete breakdown of every aspect of the Clemson football team heading into the 2019 season.

Today, we continue our analysis with a position preview of the wide receivers.

Projected Depth Chart:

X- Tee Higgins

  • Diondre Overton
  • Frank Ladson

Y- Cornell Powell or Diondre Overton

  • TJ Chase
  • Brannon Spector

Z- Justyn Ross

  • TJ Chase or Joseph Ngata

Wide Receivers Preview:

The Tigers suffered a bit of attrition this spring at the wide receiver position when Amari Rodgers went down with a torn ACL. Rodgers, however, is on the fast track to recovery and has already been cleared to run.

He is expected back at some point in the season- sooner rather than later- and will factor into the starting rotation when he returns. In addition to Rodgers missing time, Derion Kendrick was moved over to cornerback during spring practice and is expected to stay there. Kendrick would’ve likely been the third starter with Rodgers out.

With both Rodgers and Kendrick gone, it’s expected that Justyn Ross and Tee Higgins will be two starters and the third wide receiver will be a battle- most likely- between Diondre Overton and Cornell Powell.

We’ll also see a healthy dose of TJ Chase and two true-freshmen in Frank Ladson and Joseph Ngata. Freshman Brannon Spector may also see some time at the slot if he can be competitive during the course of fall camp.

Next. WR Commit Ajou Ajou's potential through the roof. dark

Overall, this group has a ton of depth and talent. It’ll be interesting to see how the rotation forms during the season, but there’s no questioning that the Tigers will have lethal options out on the field as part of their wide receiver room.
