Clemson football RB Travis Etienne is close to etching his name in the record books. Here’s how close the running back is to breaking records.

Travis Etienne has had an absolutely special career through his first two years with the Clemson football program.

Etienne came in as a freshman and eventually earned massive playing time before cementing himself as the starter. As a sophomore, Etienne was named the ACC Player of the Year and was the MVP of the ACC Championship game.

As he heads into his junior season, Travis Etienne is on pace to break Clemson football records.

Just how close is he to the all-time records? Here’s a look.

Clemson Football Rushing Record Books:

Season Leaders:

  • Rushing Yards: Travis Etienne (1,658 yards in 2018)
  • Rushing Touchdowns: Travis Etienne (24 TDs in 2018)

Career Leaders:

  • Rushing Yards: Raymond Priester (3,966 yards)
  • Rushing Touchdowns: James Davis (47)

As you can see, Etienne already holds records for most rushing yards and touchdowns in a single season. He is on pace to leave Clemson football as the all-time leader in yards per carry (7.8) by a wide margin.

Currently, Etienne has 2,424 yards rushing for his career and 37 rushing touchdowns.

That means he is just 1,542 yards away from tying Priester’s record and just 10 touchdowns away from Davis in just three seasons.

If Etienne ever chose to come back for his senior season, he’d completely destroy those numbers. There’s no way that he wouldn’t. It should be expected, though, that the running back will leave after his junior season.

All it will take for him to be the all-time leader in just three seasons is 1,543 yards (less than last season’s number) and 11 touchdowns (half of what he had in 2018). Etienne is certainly in position to become the all-time leading rusher in Tiger history and there doesn’t seem to be anything that can stop him from achieving those goals.
