Clemson Football: National Media finally calling out Bama for excuse-making
It has taken long enough, but it seems the national media is finally calling out Alabama after the Tide’s loss to Clemson football in January.
The Clemson football team absolutely waxed Alabama back in January during the National Championship.
The Tigers came away with a 44-16 victory that really, in essence, wasn’t that close. Dabo Swinney called off the dogs when Clemson had yet another chance to score a touchdown and eclipse the 50-point mark in the matchup.
Despite the compete dominance from the Tigers, there have been very few Alabama players or coaches- as well as SEC analysts- give credit to Clemson football.
Instead, they’ve talked about ‘mental fatigue’ from playing that ‘grueling’ SEC schedule, they’ve talked about how players and coaches were distracted and how they didn’t prepare as they should have. Instead of just saying they were beaten by a better team, Nick Saban has been the conductor of an excuse train a mile long with Paul Finebaum riding in the passenger seat.
Seemingly, the national media is finally taking notice.
After Saban used excuses of distractions and Alabama LB Dylan Moses said that Georgia was the toughest team he had faced in his collegiate career at SEC Media Days, some of the national media finally struck back.
ESPN released an article titled ‘Saban, Alabama need to stop making excuses and give Clemson credit.’ AL.com, which covers Alabama extensively, wrote an article with the title ‘Alabama football needs a cold, hard slap in the face.’
After listing the excuses from players and Saban alike, the article came away with this gem of a quote:
"Clemson. Was. Better.Clemson is still better.Clemson is the new superpower in college football."
SEC fans don’t like it. They don’t want to admit that the Clemson football program has ascended to new heights. Interestingly enough, there is only one active head coach in the SEC that has ever beaten Nick Saban and that’s Gus Malzahn. Dabo Swinney has already done it twice in far fewer tries.
Swinney has led the Tigers to a new level and SEC fans need to stop making excuses. They need to realize that Clemson was just better than Alabama. You could’ve played that game anywhere in the world. You could’ve played that game on the moon and the Tigers would’ve won.
Some will remain ignorant, but it’s good to see some of the national media beginning to realize that, even if it is six months after the fact.
