The Clemson football coaching staff harped on the talent and ability of Jordan McFadden. He will compete for playing time in 2019.
While most have already penciled in Jackson Carman as the starter at left tackle for Clemson football in 2019, the coaching staff has continued to ‘talk up’ Jordan McFadden.
McFadden, who redshirted last season, had a very good spring from all accounts and is competing for legitimate playing time at offensive tackle.
The Tigers have Tremayne Anchrum and Jackson Carman listed as the two starters right now, but McFadden is continuing to impress. He’s listed as the second-string right tackle behind Anchrum in the post-spring depth chart, but could potentially move to a starting position if Anchrum moved over to left tackle.
It’s clear that the coaching staff is planning to give Jackson Carman the first chance, but if he underperforms, McFadden could see his name thrown into the competition.
Even if Carman performs as expected and Anchrum continues the trend of what he started last season, there’s still room for McFadden to get playing time in 2019.
Though he may not be listed in the starting lineup, McFadden will likely be the first offensive tackle off the bench and is seemingly proving to the coaching staff that he is more than capable of taking high-quality snaps while giving Anchrum and potentially Carman a breather.
As we head into the start of fall camp, don’t forget about Jordan McFadden. There’s plenty of talent in that starting group for Clemson football, but he will still be an important piece of the offensive line.
Developing depth is something that will extremely important for the Tigers in 2019 and McFadden will likely be a part of that process. He’ll also be next in line for a starting job next season when Anchrum moves on to the NFL.
