Many media members were absolutely stunned when Dabo Swinney elected for John Simpson to attend ACC Media Days for Clemson football.

It was a popular topic for many talk show hosts just a couple of weeks ago.

Dabo Swinney selected John Simpson, a veteran offensive guard, to represent Clemson football at the 2019 ACC Football Kickoff instead of Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne, Justyn Ross or Tee Higgins.

With the big names staying at home, many media members argued that the Tigers were hurting the conference’s exposure and their own by sending an offensive lineman instead.

It should be noted that Dabo Swinney has always selected veterans to attend Media Days and has elected to reward his experienced players. It should also be noted that, despite the lack of exposure, John Simpson is a potential first-team All-American offensive guard.

Simpson, in addition to many teammates and Clemson football fans, took exception to the conversation.

Though it’s certainly understandable from a media personnel point of view that you’d want to interview and get stories from the top stars from around the country, Dabo Swinney’s policy is also understandable.

Simpson decided to hilariously troll some of the media members- in a light-hearted way- at the 2019 ACC Football Media Kickoff. He wore a blonde wig as to imitate the star Clemson football quarterback.

Honestly, when you think about it, why would Dabo Swinney open up Trevor Lawrence for questions when he knows that Lawrence is going to be in the spotlight doing interviews all season long? How many times does Trevor Lawrence need to answer questions about what kind of shampoo he uses or if he uses color in his hair?
