Sporting News released its ‘most dangerous matchup’ listings for each top-25 team, including Clemson football. Here’s a look at what the publication says.

Each year when we get into the thick of July, we begin to see national publications releasing a lot of the same lists.

They go through X-factors, breakout players, darkhorses, potential upsets and most exciting matchups. One of the most intriguing posts is always the most dangerous game for each top-25 program.

Clemson football, which is ranked No. 2 in the nation according to Sporting News, was included in this latest list, of course, and the publication believes that the Tigers’ most dangerous game will come on the road in week three when they travel up to Syracuse.

Sporting News says that this game might not just be considered a trap game, but potentially the toughest game on Clemson’s schedule. The Tigers will be traveling up to Syracuse after playing a top-15 Texas A&M team at home.

The last time that Clemson football went up to the Carrier Dome, the Tigers lost Kelly Bryant to injury and ended up falling to the Orange in a weird Friday night tilt.

Though Sporting News and many national outlets have pointed this one out as a dangerous game- and it certainly should be considered- it’s probably not the top one at this point.

Why? The Tigers have Syracuse on their radar. It’s kind of like how NC State was considered this dangerous matchup for Clemson last season. Because the Wolfpack competed, it was just a consensus thought that they’d challenge the Tigers last year. That certainly wasn’t the case.

It’s sort of the same thing, at least to an extent, this season.

The Tigers will have a scare or two as the season progresses most likely, but is the Syracuse game the most dangerous? Maybe, maybe not. At this point, it’s tough to tell.
