Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney has selected which two Tigers will attend the ACC Football Kickoff to preview the upcoming season.

John Simpson and Tanner Muse will be the two Clemson football players representing the program at the ACC Football Kickoff in 2019.

The ACC Football Kickoff, which is the unofficial start to the season each year, is a two-day conference in Charlotte that features players and coaches from each school. The coaches and players meet with media members and conduct interviews previewing the upcoming season.

Dabo Swinney stuck with his policy and selected two upperclassmen to attend the event.

Though most media members would’ve requested Trevor Lawrence, or even another player like Tee Higgins or Travis Etienne on the offensive side of the ball, Swinney selected John Simpson and for good reason.

Typically, we see Swinney select an upperclassman on the offensive line for the event. This allows a player that doesn’t necessarily get a bunch of spotlight during the season a chance to meet with media members. Also, Simpson is a seasoned veteran who knows how to handle the media, which certainly goes into the decision as well.

Tanner Muse is also a returning veteran who has never been to the ACC Kickoff before. The Tigers could’ve taken a guy like Isaiah Simmons or K’Von Wallace, but Muse is the most experienced and will be a captain on the team this coming season.

He will be able to talk about what the defensive backfield needs to do to get better and how the defense will work to replace several starters and key reserves from last year’s team.

Some notable attendees from around the conference include AJ Dillon (Boston College RB), Tommy DeVito (Syracuse QB), Bryce Perkins (UVA QB) and Myles Dorn (UNC DB), to name a few. It will also be interesting to hear from Mack Brown, as well new GT coach Geoff Collins as they look to turn around their respective programs.
