The Clemson football offensive line could become one of the best units in the country. Here’s what to expect from the group in the summer.

The Clemson football offensive line group is expected to be much improved from last season.

Though the Tigers lose two very good leaders and talented linemen in LT Mitch Hyatt and C Justin Falcinelli, it’s clear that there is still reason to be optimistic about the group.

As we head into the summer, Clemson football has three starters returning- RT Tremayne Anchrum, RG Gage Cervenka and LG John Simpson- and they are moving Sean Pollard to center, who co-started with Cervenka at guard last season.

With those returners and talented sophomore Jackson Carman stepping in at left tackle, this group could actually be one of the best offensive lines we’ve seen in quite some time at Clemson.

Summer Expectations: Offensive Line

The offensive line will get in the weight room this summer, especially, and try to put some work in. Expect to see Simspon, Cervenka, Pollard and Anchrum develop their weight by putting on some muscle and becoming their ‘final draft’ for the NFL.

Jackson Carman will likely be asked to lose a few more pounds this summer to play that left tackle position effectively. He came into the Clemson football program weighing over 350 pounds. He is down to the 320s now, but I think the coaching staff likely wants to see him play in the low 320s or even in the 315-318 range if possible.

The Tigers will also look to develop the second-string offensive linemen, including guys like Cade Stewart, Will Putnam, Matt Bockhorst, Chandler Reeves, Blake Vinson and Jordan McFadden, to name a few.

The summer is certainly one of the most important times for the offensive line. They will develop their foot work, as well as craft their bodies to be the best blockers- in both run and pass-protection- as possible.
