Clemson football has the best coaching staff from top-to-bottom in the country and it’s really not even close. Three Tiger assistants are ranked in the top-10.

247 Sports released its rankings of the top assistant coaches in the nation and Clemson football held three of the spots.

One thing that Dabo Swinney has been able to do better than any coach in the country is keep his staff together, maintaining continuity. By doing so, Clemson football has been able to recruit at a high level and continue to build together with the same staff working towards the same goal.

When you have the same staff together for so many years, it also allows everyone to be on the same page. You don’t have to rebuild or re-teach expectations because everyone already knows the standard.

Here is a look at the top-10 assistant coaches in America, according to 247 Sports.

  1. Brent Venables, Clemson DC
  2. Dave Aranda, LSU DC
  3. Tony Elliott, Clemson OC
  4. Alex Grinch, Oklahoma DC
  5. Jeff Scott, Clemson OC
  6. Chip Long, Notre Dame OC
  7. Dell McGee, Georgia RBs
  8. Bob Shoop, Mississippi State DC
  9. Don Brown, Maryland DC
  10. Mike Elko, Texas A&M DC

Analysis:

Brent Venables, for good reason, is ranked as the top assistant coach in the nation. Venables has had several opportunities to begin a head coaching career and has chosen to stay with the Clemson football program each time.

Venables has established himself easily as the best Defensive Coordinator in the nation and the top assistant.

Behind Venables, both Tony Elliott (No. 3) and Jeff Scott (No. 5) are ranked by 247 Sports, as well. Having three of the top five assistants in the country is a valuable asset as Dabo Swinney continues to build the Clemson football program.

All three assistants will have an opportunity to become Power-5 head coaches at some point in the near future. They have certainly proven their worth and will only continue to get better while working in Clemson.
