Clemson football defensive end Justin Mascoll quietly earned raving reviews this spring and will have a chance to compete for playing time this fall.

Though many Clemson football fans were focused on other things in the spring, there’s no doubt that Justin Mascoll caught the eye of the coaching staff during camp.

With names like Xavier Thomas, Justin Foster and KJ Henry at the defensive end position, it’s easy for the Clemson football faithful to forget about a guy like Justin Mascoll.

Though he is quietly flying under the radar, Tiger fans can be sure that the redshirt freshman will have an opportunity to make an impact in 2019.

Mascoll was a 4-star coming out of high school, but with the depth that the Tigers possessed at defensive end, he redshirted last season.

With a year of work in the weight room under his belt, he is ready to contribute. During the spring game, Mascoll went head-to-head with Jackson Carman for much of the afternoon. In many cases, he beat the Tigers’ starter at left tackle and looked really good with his technique.

There were several times during the early periods of spring camp that media members noted Mascoll’s size and athleticism at the defensive end spot.

While the starters are pretty much set at defensive end- with Xavier Thomas and Justin Foster taking those responsibilities- the two-deep is still wide open.

Mascoll will enter into competition with Logan Rudolph and KJ Henry in just a couple of months when fall camp begins. There’s a good chance for him to at the very least become a co-backup at either defensive end spot before it’s all said and done.
