Clemson football freshman Ruke Orhorhoro has the potential to develop into a solid defensive lineman, but has only reached the tip of the iceberg.

Ruke Orhorhoro only started playing football a couple of years ago.

Even with his lack of experience, Orhorhoro was good enough to earn offers from some of the top programs in the nation, including Clemson football.

During the summer, we’ll be giving you a breakdown of each of the 2019 Clemson football freshmen.

Today, let’s continue the series by taking a look at defensive lineman Ruke Orhorhoro.

Talent Analysis:

Orhorhoro measures in at 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds. He had originally played basketball and didn’t begin football until his junior season. Though the amount of time he’s played in the sport is little, Orhorhoro caught the eye of coaches from around the nation with his raw athleticism and explosiveness along the defensive line.

At 6-foot-4, there’s plenty of room for his frame to add more weight and become a dangerous option for the Tigers.

Orhorhoro will likely play inside at defensive tackle, though he could move outside if the Tigers needed him there. He has pretty good raw speed and athleticism, and plays with great physicality. Though his technique will need work, Orhorhoro has only reached the tip of the iceberg for what he is capable of developing into.

The coaching staff loves the raw attributes that he brings to the program. His strength, athleticism and explosiveness are all things that can’t be taught. The fundamentals of football, however, can be. That’s the chance that the coaches are taking on Orhorhoro with the hopes that he will develop into a solid defensive lineman with a blend of taught fundamentals and his nature explosiveness.

Immediate Impact?

Orhorhoro will likely redshirt this season. The Tigers will look to get him in the weight room and catch him up to speed over his first season so that he can potentially make an impact and compete the following season as a redshirt freshman.
