5-star DE Myles Murphy announced his commitment to Clemson football Friday evening during halftime of his high school’s spring game.

The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class just solidified itself as one of the best in CFB history with the commitment of 5-star DE Myles Murphy.

Murphy, a product of Powder Springs, GA, became the 15th commitment of the 2020 Clemson football recruiting class. Murphy is the fifth 5-star of the class, joining DL Bryan Bresee, QB DJ Uiagalelei, DB Fred Davis and RB Demarkcus Bowman.

With his commitment, the Tigers have separated themselves from LSU (No. 2) and Alabama (No. 3) in the 247 Sports’ Composite Team Rankings at least for the time being. The average ranking for the class is through the roof and it’s clear now that this class is going to go down in history as one of the best ever.

Murphy is the No. 2 rated defensive end in the nation and the No. 1 overall player from the state of Georgia. He is ranked as the No. 8 overall player in the nation, according to the 247 Sports’ Composite player rankings. He joins Bresee (No. 2 overall) as the second player inside the top-10 of the rankings.

Analysis:

When looking at Murphy, one sees a dominant defensive lineman. Murphy is the perfect blend of strength, athleticism and versatility at the edge.

He projects as a strong-side defensive end, but could be successful at either edge position. He has the talent and ability to compete for playing time right away.

Murphy is able to use his strength to set a hard edge on running plays, but also has good foot work and technique to get past blockers and get to the passer.

Murphy will compete with the likes of KJ Henry and Justin Mascoll next season for a start spot and will contribute right away for the Tigers.
