The 2019 Clemson football freshman class is one of the biggest in recent history. Today, we continue our analysis with a look at Etinosa Reuben.

The 2019 Clemson football recruiting cycle proved big for the Tiger coaching staff.

The Tigers signed a total of 29 prospects and had 17 mid-year enrollees. Throughout the summer, Rubbing the Rock will give you an analysis on each of the freshmen and what their roles will be in 2019.

Today, we continue our series with a look at defensive lineman Etinosa Reuben.

Talent Analysis:

Etinosa Reuben and fellow freshman Ruke Orhorhoro are very similar. Both guys recently started playing football, but are promising versatile athletes.

Reuben steps on campus measuring in at 6-foot-3 and 275 pounds. He could project as a strong-side defensive end or could potentially move inside and play the 3-tech in the interior of the defensive line.

During the spring, the coaching staff played him more inside due to the fact that the Tigers were low on bodies at defensive tackle. Most likely, Reuben will stay there this fall and compete at that position.

With that being said, he is a work in progress.

When you look at Reuben’s raw talent and measurables, you can see what the coaching staff saw in him. He is an explosive athlete with quick feet and great agility. He also has a good mixture of power. With that being said, he’s still got a ways to go with his technique and learning the position.

On film, Reuben plays high and that doesn’t really affect him at the high school level. He’s just bigger, tougher, stronger and faster than his opponent. In college, he’ll have to learn the ins-and-outs of playing the position and sure up that technique.

Immediate Impact?

Reuben is a project. He could develop into an elite defensive lineman because of his raw athleticism and skill. It will take time, though, and I’d expect him to redshirt this season and get stronger in the weight room before we see him competing for legitimate playing time.
