As we continue our series on freshmen in the 2019 Clemson football class, here is our take and analysis on defensive tackle Tyler Davis.

The 2019 Clemson football freshman class is one of the best in school history.

The Tigers signed a big class, bringing in a total of 29 prospects to fill out scholarships and the depth chart.

Out of the 29 signees, 17 are already on campus and were enrolled in classes for this past spring semester. One of those early enrollees was defensive tackle Tyler Davis.

As we continue our series analyzing the 2019 freshmen, let’s take a look Davis and his potential at defensive tackle.

Talent Analysis:

You’ve heard him referred to as ‘Baby Dex.’ Tyler Davis is going to be a special player and defensive tackle for Clemson football before it’s all said and done.

The 4-star prospect was one of the top performers during spring camp.

He is smaller than Dexter Lawrence (as most people are), but he plays big and is extremely powerful on the interior of that line.

Davis plays with good leverage and is able to get into the backfield using his strength. He reminds me of Grady Jarrett and plays very similar to the former Clemson football player in style.

Immediate Impact?

The short answer to this question is a big yes. Davis is going to factor into the two-deep this season. The Tigers are short at defensive tackle, and were even shorter in the spring.

Nyles Pinckney and Jordan Williams, who were both out during the spring recovering from injuries, are expected to be the starters in 2019.

Next. Are the Tigers targeting a 2021 QB?. dark

After those two guys, though, Davis is probably the next man up. He was the most impressive defensive tackle out of the group in the spring and will, most likely, join Xavier Kelly on the two-deep when the depth charts are released.
