Clemson football defensive back Sheridan Jones has an opportunity to make an impact for the Tigers during his freshman campaign.

Sheridan Jones probably had the best day of all defensive players back when Clemson football hosted its spring game in early April.

The true-freshman forced a fumble, was in on several pass break-ups and had an interception returned for a touchdown.

The Clemson football coaching staff has spoken highly of the true-freshman throughout spring camp and it’s clear that he has a chance to make an impact early this season.

Talent Analysis:

Jones has the ability to develop into an elite cornerback before it’s all said and done.

He is a solid pure man-defender who can keep up with his assignment with relative ease, but what I like most is his physical nature. Early on in his career, that physicality is probably going to lead to some pass-interference calls, but he will learn from it and get better.

Jones has potential to become similar to a Cordrea Tankersley with maybe a bit more of a nasty side than what Tankersley possessed.

He will still have to learn the art of being physical without being flagged, but Jones is certainly capable of being an elite pass-defender who can set the edge and turn rushes back inside, as well.

He is a quick learner and you can tell that he is able to read an offense by just watching some of his high school film and the spring game. The way that he jumps in passing lanes or breaks on screen plays will be invaluable, but in his youth, he’ll have to avoid getting burned trying to jump too early.

Immediate Impact?

Jones will be able to get on the field early. The Tigers have some talent at cornerback, but he worked his way up the depth chart in the spring and will be competing with the likes of Kyler McMichael, Mario Goodrich and LeAnthony Williams for a spot in the two-deep.
