Is Clemson football quarterback Chase Brice the second best QB in the ACC? One could certainly make an argument for the redshirt sophomore.

Chase Brice is the best backup quarterback in the nation.

The redshirt sophomore is returning to Clemson football after playing an important role in the Tigers’ 2018 National Championship.

As has been noted, the Tigers may not even be in the CFB Playoff had it not been for Brice. Chase Brice stepped in during the Syracuse game after Trevor Lawrence went down with a game-ending injury. Brice was a bit shaky at first, but settled in and led Clemson to a comeback victory.

One of the highlights of the game happened in the fourth quarter on the game-winning drive when Brice, who was facing pressure, delivered a perfect ball to the sideline to Tee Higgins on fourth down. Had the ball fell incomplete, Clemson football would’ve lost.

Instead, the Tigers scored and ended up holding on for the late-game victory.

With the win under his belt, Brice looked different from then on out. When he got playing time, he made the most of it and played with a great confidence.

As he steps into his redshirt sophomore season, there is reason to believe that Chase Brice is actually the second-best quarterback in the ACC.

Other than Brice, there are only a few quarterbacks that can even be considered for No. 2 on the list in the ACC. Of course, we all know that Trevor Lawrence is the clear-cut No. 1.

After Lawrence, people may look at Tate Martell (Miami), Bryce Perkins (Virginia), Sam Hartman (Wake Forest), Jawan Pass (Louisville), Anthony Brown (Boston College) or James Blackman (FSU) as candidates for No. 2.

Though these guys will put up more numbers than Brice- due to more playing time- I actually think that I’d take Brice and his accurate passing ability over the vast majority of these other guys. Bryce Perkins could develop into a good passer of the football. We’ll never really know what James Blackman is capable of because his offensive line is so bad.

Jawan Pass and Sam Hartman have some raw abilities, but are they really better than Brice? I would tend to believe not.

We won’t get the opportunity to see it, most likely, but I certainly believe that the case should be made that Chase Brice be voted second-team All-ACC.
