Clemson football lost a recruiting battle, basically for the first time, in the 2020 cycle when 5-star LB Antoine Sampah committed to LSU.

The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class is expected to be one of the best in school history. As a matter of fact, there’s a chance that this class finishes as one of the best in College Football history.

Currently, the Tigers are ranked No. 3 in the nation in the 247 Sports’ Composite team rankings.

Clemson was ranked No. 1 in the nation after picking a commitment from the country’s top prospect in 5-star Bryan Bresee, but fell back to third after LSU picked up a commitment from 4-star LB Antione Sampah and 5-star WR Rakim Jarrett over the past week.

Sampah was seemingly the top linebacker on the Tigers’ board from the outside looking in, but perhaps the Clemson football coaching staff began looking elsewhere. He was certainly a talented prospect that the Tigers wanted, but the coaching staff still has some options when it comes to linebacker.

2020 Linebacker Options:

The top linebacker in the 2020 class is 5-star Justin Flowe. Flowe is supposedly a USC lock, but the Tigers certainly have been recruiting him hard. Clemson could potentially flip the 5-star before it’s all said and done, especially if they can get him on campus later this fall for an official visit.

Another option could be 4-star Trenton Simpson. Simpson is currently a UNC lean, but has been waiting for an offer from Clemson for quite some time. The Tigers could potentially offer him if Sampah is out of the picture.

What I think you’ll see happen, though, is pretty simple. I think Clemson football will let things play out with Flowe and then make a decision on what they do with scholarships after that.

Keep in mind, the Tigers already have commitments from two linebackers for the class in 4-star Sergio Allen and 4-star Kevin Swint. Clemson will likely take at least three at the position, and could potentially take four, depending on how things shape up with the rest of the roster.
