Clemson Football: Bryan Bresee is the next JJ Watt; potential through the roof
The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class moved to No. 1 in the nation Tuesday afternoon when 5-star DL Bryan Bresee committed to the Tigers.
The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class is already one of the most elite classes in the history of the program.
The Tigers picked up their 12th commitment of the cycle when 5-star DL Bryan Bresee announced that he was committing at a school ceremony.
Bresee was the 247 Sports’ Composite No. 1 overall player, and for good reason.
While Clemson football fans have their sights set on other prizes, Bresee shouldn’t be overlooked.
The next JJ Watt…
Bresee is the No. 1 player in the nation because of his versatility and complete athleticism. He’s the defensive lineman that can move inside and play defensive tackle, as well as play outside.
Go watch his film and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Bresee has power, but what is more impressive is his finesse moves and unstoppable motor. He is around 295 pounds, but moves like a defensive end. A guy with that weight and strength shouldn’t be able to move the way he does, but yet he’s able to.
I’m convinced after watching him play that there’s no way he’s not going to play a ton of snaps from the get-go. Bresee isn’t going to sit the bench. He’s going to come in and compete for a starting spot right away. He’s just that good.
The versatility, athleticism, power and motor make him an unstoppable force on that defensive line. Coming out of high school, Bresee is the most talented defensive lineman to ever commit to Clemson. That includes guys like Christian Wilkins, Xavier Thomas and Dexter Lawrence.
I’m not saying that he’s already on their level, but he has the potential to develop into something dominant that Tiger fans are going to fall in love with from the very beginning.
It will be interesting to see how this Clemson football coaching staff chooses to use him. Does he stay around the same weight and play both spots on the line? Does he lose a few pounds and become a full-time defensive end? Does he put on some weight and become the next Ndamukong Suh? He’s certainly capable of performing any of those tasks.
Most likely, though, I expect to see him stay pretty close to what he already is and have a similar playing style to JJ Watt. Go watch Watt’s film from college and then look at Bresee’s. The two look almost identical at times.
This is a huge pick up for the Tigers and there’s no doubt that Bresee is going to make an impact on the Clemson football program for years to come.
