The Clemson football program is not ranked inside the top-five in one of the latest rankings of CFB teams from around the nation.

Braden Gall, host of Athlon Sports’ Cover-2 Podcast, released a list ranking the top College Football programs in the nation.

The list is supposed to be an all-time ranking with a view of the current landscape.

Just as you’d expect, the Clemson football program got little love in the rankings. Here’s a look at the top-15, according to Gall.

  1. Alabama
  2. Texas
  3. Georgia
  4. Ohio State
  5. Florida
  6. Clemson
  7. LSU
  8. Oklahoma
  9. USC
  10. Penn State
  11. Florida State
  12. Tennessee
  13. Auburn
  14. Texas A&M
  15. Michigan

Thoughts:

According to Gall, one of the main points in the criteria is geographic access to talent. This list is meant to be taken more in a sense of what the best coaching job would be if it were to open up today.

In my opinion, I just don’t think you can have Georgia that high on the list when you’re talking about elite programs. The Bulldogs haven’t won a National Championship in more than 30 years.

Texas is also too high. The Longhorns have all the money in the world, but yet can’t ever consistently win. Over the span of their program, Texas has just three National Championships by the AP. That’s extremely low for a program that is supposedly the second best in the nation.

I understand the power of the brand with Ohio State and Florida, but I’d say that Clemson football has just about eclipsed that, especially in the eyes of recruits.

If you’re talking about the places that have the best access to talent, it shouldn’t matter about geography. It should matter about who is able to recruit at the highest level.

Next. Did Alabama lie about its spring game?. dark

No one, other than Alabama, is recruiting at the same level as Clemson.

So, if you’re talking about programs with a look towards the modern era, Clemson has to be No. 2 on the list. There’s no program that has achieved anything close to what the Tigers have the last decade, beside Alabama.
