Clemson football offensive lineman Noah DeHond announced on Twitter Monday evening that he would be retiring from football.

Noah DeHond, a redshirt sophomore for Clemson football, announced Monday evening that he would be retiring from football.

DeHond suffered a neck injury in 2018 that kept him out of action for the season. He was hoping that surgery would get rid of the pain and allow him to return at 100 percent, but said that it just wasn’t the case.

DeHond was a 247 Sports’ Composite 3-star prospect out of Hightstown, New Jersey. He came into the Clemson football program at 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds with promise of becoming an elite offensive lineman before it was all said and done.

He was expected to compete with Jackson Carman for that starting position at offensive tackle and certainly would’ve been on the two-deep with a chance to start the following season.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to DeHond. I’m sure this is disappointing news, especially after all the work he did to try and come back to compete this season. DeHond was a very talented offensive lineman and there’s no doubt that he would’ve had a great chance to play in the NFL one day.

But, you have to make the decision that is right for you. Safety should always be the highest priority and concern and DeHond is making the right choice to not endanger his health. He’ll still be able to earn a degree and become a professional who is highly talented and ready for the workforce.

Next. TEs a question mark following the spring. dark

I expect that we’ll still see DeHond participate with the team in some capacity, perhaps even as an assistant of some kind.

Either way, we at Rubbing the Rock wish him the best and know he will succeed moving forward.
