According to a report from Saturday Down South, Clemson football is not currently interested in pursuing a 5-star 2020 defensive end.

The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class is shaping up to be one of the best in school history. The Tigers already have commitments from 11 prospects that are all 4-stars, according to the 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings, and are currently looking at several other key targets.

According to a report from Saturday Down South, though, there is one 5-star prospect that the Tigers are not currently interested in pursuing.

5-star DE/OLB Reggie Grimes II was reportedly told that Clemson was full at both positions at which they’d be recruiting him.

Grimes II released his top-six list that included Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, LSU and Vanderbilt.  The Crimson Tide are considered the heavy favorite to win his services.

Thoughts:

This is one of those instances where Clemson just doesn’t see a fit, in my opinion. Whether it be personality, talent or a mixture of both, the Tigers just weren’t interested in pursuing the 5-star DE/OLB out of Tennessee.

It could be due to Clemson liking where it sits with 5-star DEs Bryan Bresee, Jordan Burch and Myles Murphy, as well as 5-star LBs Antoine Sampah and Justin Flowe right now, who are all higher on their big board.

The Tigers have to prioritize prospects according to scholarship numbers and this is one of those cases where there just wasn’t going to be room if they landed some of those athletes they are highly recruiting.

Next. Mike Jones Jr. is primed for a big season. dark

The coaching staff knows what they are doing, for sure.

The most interesting note out of this story is the fact that the Clemson football program has grown to such heights that the Tigers are turning away 5-stars. That shows the power of the brand right now in Clemson and just how elite this program truly has become.
